Kinetics of aqueous amalgamformation electrode reactions by the combined analysis of interfacial distance parameters and steric factors
A.G.Anastopoulos
The combined analysis of interfacial distance parameters and stereochemical factors of the aqueous electroreductions Cd(II)/Cd(Hg) and Zn(II)/Zn(Hg) is applied in the presence of strongly adsorbed tetraphenylphosphonium cations. The kinetic analysis is based on constant coverage kinetic data and suggests for the occurrence of a two step mechanism comprising a chemical step followed by an electron exchange step (CE) in the case of cadmium reduction and an ion transfer step followed by an electron exchange step (IE) for the reduction of zinc.
