Fluoride adsorption onto activated carbons prepared from indigenous materials
G.Karthikeyan, S.Siva Ilango
The adsorption of fluoride ions on activated carbon prepared from low cost materials has been studied by batch process. The influences of contact time, dosage, pH, pH zpc and co-ions on the fluoride sorption were studied.Adsorption was explained using Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms with the help of Chi-square analysis. Thermodynamic parameters like ï„S0, ï„H0 and ï„S0 were calculated to understand the nature of adsorption. The surface morphology of the adsorbent material before and after fluoride sorption was observed using scanning electron microscope(SEM) andX-ray diffraction studies(XRD). The performance of the activated carbons has been tested with field samples collected fromfluoride endemic areas.
